Alex is an award winning landscape and nature photographer based in Lafayette, Indiana. He first gained his love of the outdoors through childhood experiences camping and backpacking with his family and the Boy Scouts.
Alex grew up fascinated by photography. A summer camp class and experiments with the family camera laid an early foundation for his craft. In his 30s he began to seriously pursue the art of photography to share his love of the outdoors with others.
He has photographed national parks and wilderness areas from coast to coast but retains a special interest in creating images of the often overlooked natural wonders of his home state of Indiana.
I have always been attracted to remote and wild places. Each place has its own unique spirit and my goal is to create photographs that convey the experience of being in that place.
My photographs usually begin by hiking or backpacking deep into some national forest, state park, or other wild area. When some part of the scenery attracts my eye, it becomes a matter of finding the right composition and waiting for the perfect light to bring the subject to life.
After returning to my studio, the images I've captured are processed in the digital darkroom using modern versions of techniques that date back to the earliest days of photography. Each image is developed to bring out the qualities that best express what I experienced in the field.
Finally, the images are printed on the highest quality papers using archival pigments for vivid colors that will last a lifetime.
